When Times Are Tough ...
When times are tough and you just want to curl up in a ball and cry, there are some things you can do to stay positive and make it through as a stronger and better person.
I'm almost to the end of the worst sales trip in my entire life. I could never imagine how horrible my sales have been - despite working 11-12 hours a day for 10 straight days. I have sold absolutely NOTHING. That means I have made ZERO. A very tough pill to swallow at any time, but especially right before the holidays.
At the end of each work day, I have just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry my eyes out. I could have and maybe I should have, but instead, I decided to do some positive things.
A couple nights I actually treated myself to nice BBQ dinners - something I might not even do if I was setting sales records. Every night I attempted to get a good night sleep - although that rarely happened for a number of reasons.
I have been able to eat very healthy - which is always difficult on the road, but has become a priority for me. Despite not having access to a gym or workout facility and being physically and mentally worn out, I have been able to exercise 9 out of 10 days. This is another huge priority to me.
Other positive things I have done for me include watching educational and motivational videos (instead of a lot of sports, news and 'reality television'.
I have also been able to spend some time reading, writing and making videos. This brings me to my other point. No matter how tough times are, there are always things you can do to help others.
In my case, despite dismal results in my sole reason for being in Wichita (sales) I have been able to encourage other sales people, my friends and family - and complete strangers.
Remember that when times are tough, someone else has more difficult challenges. You will make it through. It is super important to focus on positives (I will get to go home soon, spend time with my wife, son and friends - and go skiing).
There are always things you can do to improve yourself and to help others. Just don't wait until times are tough - make it a daily habit!
