Lobster influence is nice, but it doesn't carry the punch of Mobster influence.Back in the day and probably still even today in certain areas, a person who was "connected" or had "influence" carried a lot of weight. This person usually got what they wanted - mostly because of who and what they knew, but many times because of the fear of others.
Today, influence can be much different. There are a growing number of social media / internet sites that try to score and track it. One such site that measures Clout with +Ks (unfortunately I cannot spell it out for you right now) allows its members to add topics of influence for other members, but it also can come up with topics it thinks a person is influential about.
Not sure if the site chose it, or one of my extra creative friends or followers suggested it, but at some point "somebody" said I was influential about Lobster. When someone first pointed it out and @GeneDexter gave me +K in Lobster, I thought it was funny as hell. After all, I do love lobster, prefer Atlantic / Maine lobster with the huge claws to the smaller Mexican / Pacific lobster that are basically just tail (but still a very tasty crustacean), but that's about all I know about them. At one point, I was a commercial fisherman for a couple of years, but we fished in the Bering Sea off of Alaska and that was for crab.
What I have found to be great about today's type of influence is that nobody has to be frightened or intimidated, in fact quite the opposite - anyone can play. Because of my new found 'influence' or clout about Lobster, I have met a group of really cool people who are also influential around our favorite seafood ...
In order of current ranking, I introduce:
#1 in lobster influence: Miriam Gomberg In her profile she writes: I'm a recent MBA graduate from University of Nevada with extensive retail management experience. I love all things #sm including #smgirlfriends and #lobster
Despite her #1 standing Miriam was very quick to welcome me to the group. She must not think I am very strong competition in the Lobster category ...
#2 in lobster influence: Pamela Morse Her profile describes her as an expert teacher of aquatic skills, innovator in water exercise, swimming coach, Pied Piper of travel, adventure, and fun.
Pamela lives in Tucson Arizona and is actually the inventor of the Floati water exercising gear! Pretty darn neat - she gets to help people be healthy - and keep them cool in the pool!
Pamela has been very kind to me and reached out to make sure I feel included in #LobsterPride.
#3 in lobster influence: Marc Zazeela, a self-described mailing and shipping guru in New York City. His website is APC Postal Logistics. Seems to be a nice guy. Most of my good friends growing up here on the West Coast, were always from the East Coast, so I hope to get to know him better.
#4 in lobster influence: yours truly - if you can believe that.
#5 in lobster influence: @TwoBusy who claims to be Crunchy on the outside; soft and chewy on the inside and from the Boston area. This may be the person in the group who is actually closest to Lobster ...
It's fun being a part of this "very influential" group, but this influence and about $5 will buy you a cup of java at your local Starbucks - where it is certain that they do not sell our favorite crustacean. Still the same, thank you to the other 'members' of Lobster Pride for the warm welcome and helping me sea food differently ...
Welcome to the pod, Joe. I see you have grasped the essence of our group!

Joe, there is room in the lobster pot for all of us! I'm so glad to have you as part of our group. We pride ourselves in knowing little to nothing about lobsters but remaining influential all the same. Thanks for a great post. Miriam
ReplyDeleteThanks for the welcome Marc. I'm happy to be part of such a fun group!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kindness Miriam, but I do have to tell you that I am "clawing" my way toward your top spot!
