@Amazon @AmazonFresh @AmazonLocal Being Sent Daily Tweets Until I Get an Interview

I'm really hoping that my current project with the guys at Deals4Dreams really takes off like it should and that they hire me on an ongoing basis.  They are all great guys, with an awesome business model that helps people and nonprofits and ideally I will be involved longterm, but its kind of out of my hands and I need to have options.

This Twitter move is admittedly being done in frustration, but I'm betting it gets me an interview (and hopefully/probably) a job.  My frustration mostly comes from being basically unemployed for a little over three years - I know there are unfortunately still a growing number of people who share that in common.  During that time period, there have been varying levels of effort, determination, and levels of being desperate.  (Not all that long ago I even held a sign on a freeway offramp in the rain in an attempt to get enough money to buy my daughter a Christmas gift - and got zero donations).

Applications and resumes have been filed and followed up on with hundreds of potential employers - but in three years, I've only managed to get three telephone interviews.  Apparently I'm not all that good on the phone, as I haven't yet made it past that part of the screening process ;-)  I've applied for many, many positions at Amazon, which is hiring thousands of people to work at their new South Lake Union Campus just north of downtown Seattle.  Some I'm probably not qualified for, but there were a few that I could really excel in.  All I want is an interview.  At this point, I will consider any role in any of the Amazon family of businesses, but ideally I would like to work in social media for one of the extra cool Amazon businesses like Amazon Fresh, IMDB, Audible or especially AmazonLocal.

Since I haven't been fortunate enough to get a call from Amazon Careers yet, I figure I have nothing to lose (except maybe if Jeff Bezos decides to buy and demolish the cardboard shack I've been existing in).  My tactic, (besides quickly written blog posts) is that I will be Tweeting up @Amazon every day until they actually give me an interview.  Again - all I want is an interview with a hiring manager.  I would love to work for one of the Amazon Family of Companies.

My tweet to @Amazon today from @KennedyIAm read as follows:

@Amazon I've applied for a lot of jobs there, but never had an interview. This is my 1st daily tweet to you until I get an interview.

I know, not too creative, but remember, I was working with 140 characters or less.

  1. [...] (5 are still under review), I am at least a little discouraged.  But I AM going to stick with the daily tweets to Amazon until I actually do get an interview with a hiring manager. Spread the word:0savesSave If [...]

  2. Update 9/20 - today was the 28th day in a row I have sent tweets to @Amazon, @AmazonLocal and @AmazonFresh - still without a response. It makes me wonder how much better this amazing company could be operating with the effective use of social media to engage it's customers - and potential employees ...
